Yesterday, I went back to my class after recess and I was shocked to find out that the floor surrounding my table was wet, my empty water bottle was on the floor, and everyone in the class was standing. I knew that the water from my water bottle had flowed out, but I didn't know who was the person. Looking at the wet floor, the first thing that came into my mind was to wipe up the water and thus, I went to the toilet and found out that Grady was there also, rinsing the rags. I took some tissues and went back to the class and started to wipe up the water on the floor. After I finished wiping, I went to the toilet to wash my hands and went back to the class. Only three person out of the 34 persons in the class wiped away the water. As it was LA period, Miss Soh was in the class and of course, she scolded the class for giving "eye power" and not helping to wipe away the water and instead, stood there and watch as three of the students in class helped the water and not giving help. She asked us whether there was any problem on the floor, what problem will it cause and why was it not a problem to most of the pupil in the class and gave us a homework, and that is to blog about it. Today I am going to blog about the questions that she asked us.
Why was it a problem??
It is a problem as the water was at the front of the class and people may fall when they walk into the class due to the fact that water reduces friction and if the person's shoe sole has worn off, then he will fall very easily. Plus, if the person's shoes are dirty, and he walks into the class, he will dirty the floor. If the whole class does the same thing, what will happen? I think all of you will know.
Why was it not a problem to most of the students in the class??
I think that the students may be thinking that it is none of their problem as it does not affect them and they did not bother to lend a helping hand. As the water was not spilt near their seats, they think that the persons whom the water was spilt closest to will do the job by helping to clean the floor. Besides, they see nobody cleaning the floor, and thus, they don't think that there is a need to help and be the odd one out.
What do I feel??
I feel that since this is a class, we have a part in keeping the class clean, and not to wait for others to make the first move, then after that, you follow what the person does. If the whole class helps to clean up the class, then the floor will be spick and span in no time. We do not have to wait for others to make the first move. We are leaders, we should have the initiative that a leaders possesses. We are a class, and we should have the teamwork that a class should have. This is a very good lesson for us as we learnt more about helping each other and not standing there and give "eye power".
What do you all think?? Please comment. Thanks!
